MKR community forum looks ahead to the year

On Tuesday 14 April, the Mandurah and Rockingham (including Kwinana) (MKR) Advance to Zero (AtoZ) team held a community forum for partners as a reset on the year that’s been and the year ahead.

27 partners representing frontline staff, leaders and people with lived experience of homelessness shared insights, data, challenges and successes.

Some of the topics included:

  • Accessing mental health services in the MKR area
  • Constraints to acquiring identification documents
  • Lowering the barrier for employment opportunities for people living with homelessness
  • Multi-cultural services that are linguistically diverse

Marie Burman-Wiegele, Local Community Coordinator for the MKR community said lots of really great conversation was had.

“People came away from the meeting feeling motived for year ahead,” she said.

“Attendees had a better understanding of what was achieved over the past year, and that taking smaller steps towards a bigger issue does make a difference.”

In the following weeks, these topics of conversations will be explored again in rough sleeper coordination group meetings and improvement team meetings so that the ideas can turn into actions.
