The Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritisation Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT) is a pre-screening tool used to interview people or families experiencing homelessness to understand their housing and support needs through the use of an acuity score.

The VI-SPDAT enables organisations working to end homelessness to have a shared language and objectivity for triaging support and housing. The tool also limits the need for people to repeatedly tell their stories to different organisations and be further traumatised by the experience.

Acuity scale

• Low 0-4 (case management may not be necessary)
• Medium 5-9 (there may be benefit from time-limited case management)
• High 10+ (will benefit from having access to ongoing case management approaches)
